Lost property office

 

The lost property office is located at the Office of the District Starosty in Strzelce Krajeńskie, in room 210, and is open during office hours.

Pursuant to the Lost Property Act of February 20, 2015 (Journal of Laws of 2015, item 397), whoever has found an item and does not know the person authorized to its reclaiming or that person’s whereabouts, shall immediately hand that item over to the starost having jurisdiction over the place of residence of the finder or the place of finding the item.

An exception to the above is an item whose possession requires a licence (in particular: weapon, ammunition and explosives) or documents (ID card or passport) that should be immediately handed over to the nearest police unit.

The Starost can refuse to accept the item whose estimated value does not exceed the amount of 100 PLN, unless it is an item of historical, scientific or artistic value.

In case of a competent starost’s refusal to accept the item, the finder can dispose of the item at his or her own discretion.

In case the found item has not been reclaimed by an authorized person within the period specified in Art. 187 of the Civil Code (i.e. within the period of two years following its finding), the item shall become the property of the finder. The Starost shall request that the finder reclaims the item within the period not shorter than 2 weeks, subject to the advice that should the finder fail to reclaim the item within the said period, it shall become the property of the district.
